A
Animagi- The ability to change into an animal at will. Related Animagus- Someone who can turn into an animal at will. It requires lots of time to become an Animagus. You also have to register yourself with the Ministry.
Azkaban- A fortress build on an island, this Wizard Prison is controlled by the Dementors. Most prisoners go mad and die under the powerful effect of the Dementors.
B
Basilisk- The King of Serpents which may reach a gigantic size and live many hundreds of years. It is born from a chicken's egg and hatched beneath a toad. Aside from its deadly and venomous fangs; its murderous stare kills anyone who is fixed with the beam of its eye. Spiders flee before the Basilisk, which in turn flees from the Crowing of the Rooster.
Beater- A Quidditch player that defends the team by whacking the bludgers with a wooden bat towards the opponent team. There are two beaters on each team. Related Bludger- A jet black ball that attacks all players during Quidditch and is typically best to avoid while playing.
Beauxbatons- A wizarding school in France.
Bubotuber- A purple sort of plant whose pus can be used to cure forms of acne and a remedy for odd hexes. Undiluted Bubotuber Pus can cause weird effect on your skin.
C
Chaser- A Quidditch player who scores 10 points everytime he puts the quaffle through the goal. There are three chasers on each team.
Chocolate Frogs- Chocolate-shaped frogs included with a Famous Witches and Wizards card.
Codswallop- A lie, false.
D
Dementor- A tall, black, cloaked creature; cannot be fooled by disguises or invisibility cloaks. They are used for protection and are the guards at Azkaban. They glory in despair. Related Dementors Kiss- Dementors have no eyes, instead there is a suction-like hole through which the Dementor sucks out the soul from the body through the head, leaving you worse than dead.
Droobles Best Blowing Gum- Can fill a room with bluebell-colored bubbles that refuse to pop for days
Dungbomb- When one of these is set off it stinks up a large area around it
Durmstrang Institute- A wizarding school far up north.
De-gnoming- A practice of driving out gnomes by holding their feet and tossing them high into the air and out of the place of occupation.
E
The Mirror of Erised- A mirror that shows what you desire most, therefore making you mad to achieve what you desire. Erised spelt backwards is desire
F
Floo Powder- When thrown into a fire it can transport a witch or wizard anywhere as long as the fireplace is connected on the Floo network.
G
Galleon- A golden piece of wizard money like a hubcap. 1 galleon= 17 sickles.
Gillyweed- Plant that allows you to breathe underwater by creating gills and webbed hands and feet. Effect lasts for one hour at the most.
Gnome- Small, leathery looking creature with a large knobby, bald head exactly like a potato. Usually occupy gardens and can be driven out by de-noming.
Grim- A giant spectral dog that haunts graveyards. There are beliefs that people die upon seeing a Grim.
Gringotts- The wizard bank, run by goblins. Known to be a very secure place.
Grunnings- A muggle drill making company. Mr. Dursley is the manager for this company
Gryffindor- One of the Houses at Hogwarts. Its founder Godric Gryffindor helped with the foundation of the castle. (See Hogwarts-Houses)

Harry Potter- The Star of the HP series. Related Hedwig- Harry Potters snowy owl.
Hogwarts School- A School of witchcraft and Wizardry for young witches and wizards. It is a boarding school for students aged from 11 to 17 years. Related Hogwarts Express- A train that collects Hogwarts students from Platform 9 and ¾ to Hogwarts and takes them back.
Howler- A letter usually sent to students (Mostly by parents) for misbehaving. A howler yells one-hundred times louder than the usual tone of the sender.
Hufflepuff- One of the Houses at Hogwarts. Its founder Helga Hufflepuff helped with the foundation of the Castle (See Hogwarts-Houses)

Invisibility Cloak- A cloak made of extremely light material that makes anything beneath it invisible
K
Knut- A bronze piece of wizard money, 29 knuts= 1 sickle.
Kwikspell- A course for squibs (Illiterate Magical People) and others with poor magical power. One of these courses helps improve magical power.
L- None
M
Mandragora or Mandrake- A powerful restorative and an important part of antidotes; The cry of a full grown Mandrake is fatal to anyone who hears it while the cry of a baby mandrake can knock you out for several hours.
Marauders Map- A map that shows the whole of the Hogwarts grounds and the castles passages. It shows everyone on the map with a miniscule box showing the name of that person.
Mudblood- A dirty, foul name given to muggle-born witches and wizards.
Muggle- A person with no magical powers at all, that is, completely human and normal.
N
N.E.W.T.s- Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests, a test taken in year 7 for every outgoing Hogwarts Student.
O
O.W.L.'s- Ordinary Wizarding Levels, a test taken in Year 5 for every Hogwarts student.
P
Parseltongue- The ability to speak and understand snakes. Voldemort specialized in this and therefore all those who can speak parseltongue are considered unworthy.
Patronus- A spell that can ward off Dementors; each wizards patronus is Unique. Learning the Patronus Charm is not easy and requires great force of mind.
Phoenix- A magical bird with red and gold plumage. Its tears can heal wounds and it has amazing magical powers. The tail is used in wands. When it dies, it burns up and a new bird is formed in its place. It has a warm weight which is very soothing.
Pigwidgeon- Ron Weasleys pet owl, also known as Pig. He looks exactly like a pig. He was given to Ron by Sirius in replacement of Scabbers or Pettigrew.
Q
Quidditch- A wizarding game played on broomsticks with 7 players. Related Quaffle- A large red ball, about the size of a soccer ball, earns the team ten points when put through the opponent goal by the teams Chasers.
R
Ravenclaw- One of the Houses at Hogwarts. Its founder Rovena Ravenclaw helped with the foundation of the Castle (See Hogwarts-Houses)
Remembrall- A small glass ball which you can hold in the palm of your hand. It turns red when you forget something and turns Purple when you forget something big.
S
Seeker- The most important Quidditch player. When he catches the snitch, he ends the game and wins his team a 150 points. Seekers suffer the most injuries usually. They have to be light and fast. Related Snitch- A small golden ball with silver wings, its capture ends a Quidditch game.
